Lički škripavac is a semi-hard cheese made from skimmed cow’s milk. It is called “škripavac” because it “squeaks” between the teeth. It has a mild to moderately strong flavor with a hint of saltiness.
Lika stew is a traditional dish prepared with various types of meat, most commonly lamb or mutton, and vegetables such as carrots, parsley, celery, bell peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, and cabbage, seasoned in a pot. It is served hot with homemade bread, accompanied by salad or sauerkraut, and pairs well with wine or brandy.
Lički pole are one of the most famous dishes in Lika. They refer to the classic way of preparing Lički potatoes. Potatoes in their skins are washed well, sliced lengthwise, and salted. Often, toppings such as sausages or pancetta are placed on top, and red peppers, onions, garlic, or herbs can also be added. It is baked in the oven and is ready when it becomes soft and takes on a golden-yellow color.
